WENGER Commando

For over 100 years, WENGER has been the proud partner of the Swiss Armed Forces, supplying the multi-functional and highly reliable Swiss Army Knife to the troops.

Since 1997 WENGER Watch is the privileged partner of the Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG) and the SWISS RAID COMMANDO (SRC). Two international events, organized by the Swiss Armed Forces which take place alternatively once every two years.

The SWISS RAID COMMANDO is a difficult event, in which 160 teams compete. The SRC tests military skills in conditions that are as close as possible to real-life engagement.

The Patrouille des Glaciers is the most renowned and difficult high mountain race of them all. The teams (3 participants per team) race through the night, from Zermatt across the Swiss Alps to Verbier, over a distance of 55 km and a cumulated altitude variation of approximately 4000m. The best teams complete the course in less than 8 hours for a measured 110 km/effort!

The Swiss Army organizes this most extreme and certainly unique high mountain race. All civil and military mountain sportsmen are allowed to participate, however due to security reasons, the number of teams is limited to approx. 1’200, with an average of 3'600 athletes at the start. The last edition has taken place from 16th through 20th April 2008.

The WENGER SPECIAL COMMANDO series, is a tribute to the Swiss Raid Commando and the Patrouille des Glaciers. This generously equipped, 42mm quartz timepiece offers chronograph functions measuring 60 seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours. The speed tachymeter is naturally also present, as is the date.

During special operations, this multi-functional chronograph watch is an essential timekeeping tool, which delivers precise information such as, local time, date, elapsed mission time and thanks to its tachymeter, vehicle velocity. This data is acquired in one quick glance, due to the extra large 38.5 dial opening and the thick Superluminova covered color markers, numbers and hands for enhanced visibility in the dark.
